Problem statement

Här är en professionell och branschenlig översättning som passar perfekt för avsnittet “Problem Statement” eller “Bakgrund” i din case study:

The Filmstaden app is perceived as cluttered and difficult to navigate, making it challenging for users to quickly and smoothly complete core tasks, such as booking tickets or finding movie information. A lack of clarity in the interface and an illogical flow cause frustration and diminish the overall user experience. Users currently have to navigate back and forth between different screens to access both movie information and showtimes. Consequently, there is a clear need to analyze the app’s user interface from a user-centered perspective and develop design proposals that improve structure, flow, and interaction. The following three interface proposals address these identical issues.

interface suggestion 1: Sketch

Here I added an info button directly on the booking (purchase) page, where showtimes for a specific date are displayed. This prevents the user from having to jump between different screens in the app to search for a movie via the ‘Movies’ and ‘Search’ tabs. It is a highly simple solution that eliminates a great deal of frustration. In relation to the context of use for my user with aphantasia (the inability to visualize imagery), being able to quickly and easily recall the plot of each movie is exceptionally valuable.

Interface suggestion 2: Scenario

The second proposal features a scenario where my user becomes frustrated by the inability to view movie plots directly on the ‘Purchase’ screen. The solution is an in-app digital assistant that quickly and seamlessly helps the user retrieve the requested information without needing to navigate between different sections of the application. The user is assisted by Jet, who responds instantly when his name is spoken, bringing up both the movie description and trailer while reading the synopsis aloud. This accommodates my user for the exact same reasons outlined in interface proposal 1.

Interface suggestion 3: Mockup

This shows my updates to the first two screens. I have renamed the ‘Buy Tickets’ button to ‘Proceed’ – a change that allows the purchase screen to be supplemented with movie information at the top. With a single tap, the user can navigate back to the overview of movies showing on the selected date, or scroll down to select seats and complete the purchase. This consolidates multiple actions and drastically improves the user flow, rather than immediately dropping the user into seat and payment selection without access to clear movie information.

Key lessons

During the project, I developed my ability to sketch and visualize ideas clearly. I learned how sketches can be used as a tool to think, test, and communicate design solutions. I also gained insights into how valuable it is to observe real users to understand their needs and challenges. I learned to connect my analyses to theory and translate them into my own design proposals. Working with analog sketches helped me rapidly explore ideas and see how small changes can make a significant difference in the user experience.
